What goes wrong
Security reviews stall when “we need visibility” implies “we log everything.” Full request archives, cloud AI gateways with default retention, and debug dumps all create a durable copy of source, secrets, and customer data that happened to ride along in a chat.
The other failure is refusing any middle layer — and then having no operational evidence when something leaks or burns budget.
Why it matters
You need a story you can defend: see models, volume, and failures; prove that prompt and answer text are not what you keep. A policy page is not proof. The architecture has to match.
What good looks like
Chat contents used in memory for the request, then gone. What you keep is metadata. Optional guards for secrets. And a check that fails closed if prompts ever land on disk.
How Aura Wire helps
Aura Wire is built around sanitized records. Prompts and answers are never persisted. Secret warnings stay observe-only until you choose stronger modes.
- Traffic views from metadata only — shapes and sizes, not bodies
- A built-in privacy check that looks for prompts on disk
- Redact, block, routing, and compression stay off until you turn them on
