You shouldn't have to upload the docs for AI to use them

Hosted knowledge bases put your specs on someone else's disk. You needed the answers — not the upload.

What goes wrong

Teams adopt a hosted knowledge base so AI can “know” the docs. That usually means shipping proprietary or client material to someone else's store, paying per seat or per query, and accepting retention policies you did not write. The alternative — standing up your own search stack per project — burns weeks before the first grounded answer.

Why it matters

For regulated, client, or competitive content, “we use AI on our docs” is not enough. You need indexing that stays on this machine, a clear yes before anything calls out to the network, and a path that does not require Docker or a second cloud account just to search a folder.

What good looks like

Drop in files. They stay on your PC. Search and assistants query the same local index. Any outside AI call is something you turned on — not the default.

How Aura Terran helps

Aura Terran is a Windows desktop app: drop in files or folders, index on your PC, and search that corpus from the app or from the tools you already use — without a hosted knowledge-base product.

  • Indexing and storage stay under your app data folder
  • No cloud upload required; optional outside AI and web features stay opt-in
  • Windows installer — no Docker or glue stack to get a first useful search

Try Aura Terran

Give AI your project docs without uploading them to the cloud. Index a folder on Windows and search in minutes.

Windows installer — the .exe will not run on Mac, Linux, phones, or tablets. Open the download on a Windows PC.
